Which Buildings are More Likely to Have Radon?

It is important to note that New Mexico has high rates of radon throughout the state, particularly in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and northern areas. Be sure to test your home and office every two years.

Since radon is a naturally occurring gas that comes from the soil, any structure that has contact with the ground will have the potential for radon. The floors that are closest to the ground is where the higher rates of radon usually are found. But depending upon the flow of air and the structure of the building, rates can vary. This is why it is so important to test for radon in your home or place of work. Trailers and mobile homes are often mistakenly considered safe, as they don’t actually rest upon the ground. However, they usually have skirting around the base which acts as a trap for radon to float up into the residence area.
